McDonald’s Sauces at Your Dinner Table

Ever wish you could have that ‘special sauce’ from your favourite burger joint at home?

Well, if your favourite sauce is one of McDonald’s special sauces, your wish is coming true very soon.

McDonald’s special sauces will soon be available in grocery stores across Canada.

It has recently been announced, that McDonald’s is working with Heinz/Kraft to make the Big Mac, McChicken and Filet-O-Fish sauces available for purchase at grocery stores across Canada before the start of the summer – just in time for BBQ season!

In January of this year, 10,000 bottles of the Big Mac sauce were offered free throughout the U.S.; and apparently, you can already buy the sauces on eBay. Sauces have been going for anywhere from about $20.00 to $25,000. Sounds crazy, right! But it’s true – I checked it out.

But before you stock up on your favourite McDonald’s sauce – with plans to slather it over just about everything – remember to consider their nutritional content. These sauces do provide a fair amount of calories, fat and sodium.

The following is the approximate nutritional breakdown of each sauce, according to the nutritional information on the McDonalds.ca website.

Big Mac Sauce

19 g of sauce (the amount served on a typical Big Mac burger) provides:

  • 90 calories
  • 10 g of fat
  • 100 mg of sodium

McChicken Sauce

14 g of sauce (the amount served on a typical McChicken sandwich; and the amount currently available at McDonald’s locations in individual packets) provides:

  • 100 calories
  • 11 g of fat
  • 80 mg of sodium

Filet-O-Fish Sauce

19 g of sauce (the amount served on a typical Filet-O-Fish sandwich) provides:

  • 90 calories
  • 11 g of fat
  • 100 mg of sodium

And when these sauces are available at your own dinner table in a squeeze bottle, you’ll likely be tempted to add more!
