Perfect Snacks for a Day at the Beach

Ready to hit the beach?

There’s nothing like spending a day enjoying the cool water and soaking up the sun at the beach.

But before you head out, don’t forget to pack some healthy snacks.

Although it may be tempting… rather than loading up on “junk foods” such as potato chips, candy, cookies and soft drinks, try loading up on healthy snacks and sticking to just one or two small treats.

The following are some great healthy choices to bring along for your day at the beach.

Frozen fruit. Frozen berries, grapes and orange wedges are sweet, refreshing and healthy.

Frozen yogurt. Place individual yogurt servings in the freezer overnight to make a great cooling and healthy beach snack.

Trail mix. Make your own by mixing unsalted nuts, dried fruits and a little coconut.

Raw fruits and veggies. Have them pre-washed, cut up and ready-to-go. Eat them on their own or bring along a yogurt, hummus or bean dip.

Cheese and crackers. Cheese strings and whole grain crackers make for a very satisfying snack.

Hard-boiled eggs. Hard-boiled eggs are very portable – leave them in the shell until ready to eat.

Sandwiches. Nut butters, such as peanut butter, are a great non-perishable option for sandwiches. Bring along bananas or apples, and add slices to your sandwich for added flavour and nutrition. Or bring along your favourite kind of sandwich such as sliced meat, meat salad, egg salad or tuna salad. Better yet, bring along a variety already cut into quarters – this way everyone can enjoy their favourite or enjoy a variety of flavours.

Hydration. Don’t forget to keep hydrated by drinking lots of water while spending the day in the hot sun. Drink regular or sparkling water. Add flavour with berries, citrus fruit wedges and/or sprigs of mint.

Remember Food safety! Be sure to store all perishable foods in a cooler with plenty of ice. Do not leave ANY foods sitting out in the hot sun.
